Monterey Club House

In 2020, the Main Club House has been undergoing major renovations. One of those was moving the upstairs pool table downstairs where the Library was located and moving the Library upstairs next to the Office. I think everyone will agree this was a beautiful renovation of the Library. Thanks to Diana Parks and her committee.

Bocce Madness 2020

The enthusiasm of the crowd that assembled to watch the final four matches was equal to the dedication of the players. Many of the favorite benches filled early, but there was plenty of room for all the spectators. Newcomers kind of knew that the onlookers were bocce players too and truly appreciated the spectacle of skill on display. Watching bocce is fun!

Of the many couples who began the journey, one couple would be left standing from the final four. It took a combination of skill and luck, the right attitude, and a natural bent toward good sportsmanship to stand up under the pressure. In the end, after a hard-fought final game, Monterey’s bocce population was satisfied and smiling at the outcome.

Monterey Fashion Show 2020

A nice buffet table offering a pleasing variety of sandwiches topped off with nothing less than Mimosas and deserts was just the start for a well-attended Sunday afternoon Style Show which has become an annual event at Monterey.

The models, four women and two men, all volunteer residents with no previous modeling experience ventured down the aisle for their many appearances, wearing outfits chosen by the models themselves from the newest seasonal stock from Stein Mart department store. Except for guidance by experienced store representative Luanne, and multitudes of garments and accessories from which to select, the home-grown show brought a charming fresh slant on fashion with plenty of audience support and encouragement.

Great Duck Derby, 2020

Following the Annual Owners Meeting at the Club House, everyone gathered around the newly rebuilt Pond 4 for the Duck Derby. With a favorable north to south wind the ducks were dispatched from the bridge. Following the “mother” duck they all swam to the finish line at building 49.

Boat Club Social Luau

The Boat Club held a Hawaiian Luau at the Yacht Club. As guests entered the YC they had to maneuver under a colorful Limbo bar (quite humorous for our senior population). Everyone settled in for a nice roast pig dinner followed by “coconut bowling”. It was a great time at the Yacht Club!

Reverse Raffle at MYCC, 2020

Another great party with every seat taken at the Yacht Club with the Monterey fun makers on a Tuesday night. The evening began with the tricky gimmick of a “Reverse Raffle” during which each person had a ticket, and having your number called disqualified you from winning a prize. There were periodic cash prizes and later the good stuff came along with five nice prizes, including a great party basket. Of course, everyone craved the grand prize of a month’s free maintenance!

There were great snacks at each table. The heart of the evening, though, was Ron & Carol’s music – all the pieces everyone loves and wants to dance to – and just the pleasure of being with our Monterey friends.

Fun Night at Monterey, 2020

It has been several years since Monterey had a Fun Night event. Well, this year Pat Cleary decided to give it another run and organized a great group of volunteer acts to equal previous shows. MC’s Pat Cleary and Jack Parker opened the ceremony with some “memories” and proceeded to introduce the acts, starting with a dance number from the Rhinestone Cowgirls, followed by a very funny Raggedy Ann and Andy. Rita O’Connell played a medley of tunes, followed by a humorous hobo Marilyn Paul.

Then a Second Hand Rose tune which was interrupted by our own ”hot dog lady” (one of her several appearances). Jack Parker showed his vocal acumen with several songs, followed by a tap dance duo of Phyllis Snyder and Sandy Williams.

Kathryn Bolce (dressed in drag) as a golfer told a variety of golf jokes, including new rules for seniors. Then it was time for the grand entrance of the “Supremes” with a medley of famous hit songs, followed by a Moi Moi Clairvoyant (Pat Marshall) and to wrap things up an appearance by Tony with his button accordion, and the infamous Giuseppe (Mecozzi) and Rosa (Haviland) from Naples, Italy

It was an extravagant show that produced new “memories” that will be remembered for years to come.

Mardis Gras at Monterey 2020!

Another Mardi Gras party is always everybody’s idea of a great time, and just leave it to the Ludmerer’s to pull it off and keep things musically moving by bringing in Doug Deming and The Jewel Tones band (with a new sax player) to get everyone up and dancing! And dancing was the rule of the evening. There were plenty of costumes with hats, masks and beads.

By the end everybody was exhausted! At the same time next year, they’ll all be back for more of the fun.
