Monterey celebrates the 4th of July

After a year and a half of COVID, Monterey got together for the July 4th celebration at the Yacht Club. There were burgers and hot dogs with all the accouterments. A great time was had by all! This followed by a return to Bingo with many participants at the Club House.

Dancing Under the Stars

After a year of COVID it was great to bring back some normality with Dancing under the Stars. With music provided by our favorite band the Sophisticats, everyone was up and dancing to lively tunes. The weather was perfect with everyone having a great time. Altogether, it was a fun party with Monterey’s movers and shakers after a year of isolation.

The Great Duck Race

Despite COVID 19, on March 13th residents gathered at the 4th hole pond for the Annual Duck Race. With unfavorable winds, the ducks were dispatched, and with help from the committee and a leaf blower they eventually made it to the finish line.

50th Anniversary Legacy Project

The MYCC 50th Anniversary Legacy Project of a beautiful mural painted on the wall of Monterey’s riverside Yacht Club by renowned Mural Artist Brenda Leigh, along with perfect lettering by artist Duane Hatfield, is complete. Please stop over to the Yacht Club and view this stunning mural. The 50th Anniversary Legacy Project Committee members, June Buchanan and Erc Labadia are grateful for the support of MORA Chair Peggy O’Keefe, and focus group Board members Lorraine DeNeill and Diane McIntyre, for their time, effort, and input to arrive at the perfect mural concept.

Thank you to the Board of Directors for their support and vote to pass the Legacy Project. Also, thank you to the many residents, the Bacheller family, First Responder Golf Scramble, and Kayak & Canoe Club for their generous financial support. Together we have achieved our goal of leaving a lasting and beautiful Legacy for our community members and members who follow us, of a beautiful mural on the Yacht Club wall.

Monterey Club House

In 2020, the Main Club House has been undergoing major renovations. One of those was moving the upstairs pool table downstairs where the Library was located and moving the Library upstairs next to the Office. I think everyone will agree this was a beautiful renovation of the Library. Thanks to Diana Parks and her committee.

Bocce Madness 2020

The enthusiasm of the crowd that assembled to watch the final four matches was equal to the dedication of the players. Many of the favorite benches filled early, but there was plenty of room for all the spectators. Newcomers kind of knew that the onlookers were bocce players too and truly appreciated the spectacle of skill on display. Watching bocce is fun!

Of the many couples who began the journey, one couple would be left standing from the final four. It took a combination of skill and luck, the right attitude, and a natural bent toward good sportsmanship to stand up under the pressure. In the end, after a hard-fought final game, Monterey’s bocce population was satisfied and smiling at the outcome.
